A private residence on a North West game farm had been without Eskom for more than 8 months. There was no grid to fall back on, so it had to be a proper off-grid system from day one.
We put in a 20kW SigenStor inverter with 2× 10kWh SigenStor batteries (20kWh) and 20× 665W AIKO panels on a ground mount — 13.3kWp of generation.
Because nothing else can carry the load when the sun drops, we added a 20kVA generator with smart switching on the geysers and the generator. The whole thing runs through the Home Assistant app, which decides when to heat the geysers and only starts the generator when the batteries genuinely can’t cope.
